Growing Stronger Together: DeRenne Dolphins Lead Through Learning

At DeRenne Middle School, the Dolphins are committed to more than teaching. They are committed to continuous growth, reflection, and excellence. Throughout this school year, our educators have been intentional about sharpening their practice, investing in their development, and strengthening their impact on students.

That commitment is evident in the opportunities our staff has embraced. Ms. Antonette Powell, 7th grade English teacher, and Ms. Darria Campbell were personally invited to participate in a highly selective national leadership summit hosted by Lead4Change in Nashville, TN. This hand selected experience brings together educators who demonstrate a deep commitment to leadership, service, and meaningful change in their schools and communities.

In addition, Principal Tammy Broadnax, Assistant Principal Marissa Johnson, Ms. Mary Jane Dobbin Mickey  (8th grade Social Studies), and Ms. Chenaque Fanning (8th grade Science) were awarded scholarships to attend the Capturing Kids' Hearts trauma informed training right here in Savannah. This immersive experience focuses on building strong relationships, creating safe learning environments, and implementing practices that support the whole child.

These opportunities reflect a shared belief at DeRenne: when educators grow, students thrive. Our team continues to seek out learning experiences that strengthen instruction, deepen relationships, and build a positive school culture grounded in care and high expectations.

At the leadership level, Principal Tammy Broadnax and Assistant Principals Ms. Falana Temple and Ms. Marissa Johnson are also expanding their impact by strengthening their partnership with Elevate Savannah, an organization housed at DeRenne that is making a meaningful difference in the lives of students through mentorship, support, and opportunities that extend beyond the classroom.

At DeRenne Middle School, growth is not an event. It is a commitment. And the Dolphins continue to lead the way.
